Web Design

Good web design is not just about pretty graphics. It’s about a user experience. Visitors to your site want information – quickly and easily.

We build websites using web standards to ensure your site will be accessible through any browser (including hand-held devices) and for people of various abilities. Accessibility means people with impaired vision or even people who just like bigger text so they can sit back from the screen without squinting, can easily change the on-screen text sizes to increase legibility. Try for yourself by clicking between the two A buttons in the blue header bar. For blind people the sites are fully compliant with screen readers. The importance of accessibility has been missed by many other websites, in fact “more than half of government and council websites contain errors and cause problems for disabled people”. A fully accessible website should also allow people with limited mobility easy keyboard navigation (for which some Flash sites out there are particularly bad at).

Useability is also of equal importance. There should be no ambiguity is site layout or navigation and we ensure that the user should have a pleasureable time online not a frustrating one.

Information on your website that is designed and placed on screen is often printed out by visitors. Many other websites fail to provide for the printed page. We use separate style rules (CSS) for printouts so that the printed version of your site retains the information and overall visual theme but omits elements that are irrelevant to a printed document (such as navigation links). This results is a much nicer printed page with text flowing according to the paper size not the screen size. Try printing this page for an example.

Animated, interactive Flash banners, animations, tutorials, featurettes and even online applications can be added to a website where applicable to enhance the visual appeal and user experience. See the animations page for more information.
